Eili Levy & Prof. Shlomo Margel

Eili Levy had created-built an experiential world for a single drop of water. The drop of water – source of life, drifts and is driven through and hovers among bumps and challenges that metaphorically represent the stages in a person's life. The drop is not absorbed by anything and does not shatter, thanks to super hydrophobic* coating that is based on the polymeric nanoparticles* developed in the laboratory of Prof. Shlomo Margel. The coating’s composition mimics surfaces of organic beings such as that of the Lotus plant whose leaf topography provides it with super-hydrophobic properties. At the festival, The artist will present an inspired off spring: an interactive sculpture that will enable the audience to influence the trajectory of the droplet *Water repellent – from Greek: hydro=water, phobos=fear, anxiety *Macromolecules, composed of many repeated subunits – from Greek: poly=many, mer=part This collaboration is developed and supported by NANO- the Fetter Museum (private) of Art and Nanoscience at Bar Ilan University. About | Eili Levy & Prof. Shlomo Margel
Eili Levy born in Jaffa in 1970, resides in Tel Aviv.is an artist who studies the performative properties of objects and materials. In 2007, she coined the term "Mizaz" for her works, in which she utilizes electric motors and Ready made to create site specific works. In the core of Levy's work are short scenes that repeat mechanically and often in a disrupted manner, performed by objects. Unlike kinetic art, her works retain open spaces that generate unexpected movements and the possibility of mechanisms failure. Levy has presented solo and duo exhibitions at the Center for Digital Art in collaboration with musician Haim Rachmani, and at the Be'eri Gallery in collaboration with artist Vered Levy. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions at various galleries and venues, including P8 Gallery in Tel Aviv, FREIES Museum Berlin, Barbur Gallery Jerusalem, The Station for Art in Ramla, Mimos Festival de Périgueux France, Beit Haomanim in Tel Aviv, and more. She co-founded and was part of the "Tazazit - Artists and Community Ensemble" together with the artist Uri Levinson (2011-2018). During this time, workshops and actions involving the construction of 'mizazim' were conducted with different communities, culminating in exhibitions held at various locations in Israel. Prof. Shlomo Margel is a polymer chemist whose main interest lies in the fields of polymers, biopolymers, colloidal chemistry, surface chemistry and biotechnology. Professor Margel received his Ph.D. from the Department of Materials Science, at the Weizmann Institute in 1976. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH), Department of Inorganic Chemistry in 1977 and then served two years as a senior scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at CALTECH. Professor Margel was the head of the Department of Chemistry at Bar-Ilan between 1999 -2001, and the dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences for the next 2 academic years. Prof. Margel was also the Head of the National Committee for Chemistry in High School Education and the president of the Israel Chemical Society between 2006-2009. Currently Prof. Margel was nominated by the Israel Academy of Sciences as chairman of the National Committee of Chemistry towards IUPAC.

פרופ' שלמה מרגל והאמנית אילי לוי מציגים את המיזם "הצפה": בהשראת העבודה שלהם המוצגת במוזיאון ננו, שם לוי בראה-בנתה עולם התנסויות לטיפת מים בודדת, הנעה ומונעת בין מהמורות ואתגרים המייצגים, מטפורית, את השלבים בחיי האדם, תודות לציפוי סופר הידרופובי, המבוסס על ננו-חלקיקים פולימריים המפותחים במעבדתו של פרופ' מרגל. הציפוי מחקה בהרכבו פני שטח מהעולם האורגני, כמו למשל את זה של צמח הלוטוס שטופוגרפית העלים שלו מקנה לו תכונות סופר-הידרופוביות. בפסטיבל היא תציג "עבודת בת" פסל אינטראקטיבי שיאפשר לקהל לנתב את מסלולה של הטיפה. *דוחה מים – מיוונית: הידרו=מים, פוביוס= פחד, חרדה *מולקולות ענק המורכבת מיחידות חוזרות של מולקולה מסוימת – מיוונית פולי-הרבה, מר=יחידה שיתוף פעולה זה מתרחש ביוזמת ננו - מוזיאון (פרטי) פטר לאמנות ומדעי הננו באוניברסיטת בר אילן. אוצרת המוזיאון: טל יזרעאל

אילי לוי נולדה ביפו ב1970, גרה בת"א. היא אמנית החוקרת את תכונותיהם הפרפורמטיביות של חפצים וחומרים. בשנת 2007 הגתה את המושג- מיזז, ביחס לעבודותיה, בהן היא משתמשת במנועים חשמליים ורדי מייד ויוצרת מיצבים נעים בחללים ספציפיים. במרכז עבודתה של לוי סצנות קצרות שחוזרות על עצמן באופן מכאני ובדר"כ משובש, שמשוחקות ע"י אובייקטים. שלא כמו באמנות קינטית, נותרים מקומות פרומים בעבודות שהיא בונה אשר יוצרים תנועות בלתי צפויות ואפשרות להסתבכות או כשלון המנגנון. לוי הציגה תערוכות יחיד ותערוכות זוגיות במרכז לאמנות דיגיטלית בשיתוף עם המוזיקאי חיים רחמני ובגלריה של קיבוץ בארי בשיתוף האמנית ורד לוי. השתתפה בתערוכות קבוצתיות רבות בהן: גלריית P8 בת"א, FREIES Museum Berlin גלריית ברבור ירושלים, התחנה לאמנות ברמלה, Mimos Festival de Périgueux France, בית האמנים בתל אביב ועוד. בשנים 2011-2018 יזמה והיתה חלק מקבוצת "תזזית-אנסמבל לאמנים וקהילה", עם האמן אורי לוינסון. בהמהלכה הועברו סדנאות (פעולות) בניית מיזזים עם קהילות שונות, ובסופם תערוכות במקומות שונים בארץ. פרופ׳ שלמה מרגל הוא כימאי של פולימרים שהעניין העיקרי שלו הוא בשטחים כמו פולימרים, ביופולימרים, כימיה קולואידאלית, כימיה של פני שטח, ביוטכנולוגיה ועוד. פרופ' מרגל סיים את עבודת הדוקטורט שלו במחלקה לחומרים של מכון ויצמן למדע בשנת 1976, וסיים את לימודי הפוסט-דוקטורט לאחר מכן בקלטק מכון המחקר הטכנולוגי של אוניברסיטת קליפורניה המחלקה לכימיה אי-אורגנית בשנת 1977. פרופ׳ מרגל היה ראש הועדה הארצית הישראלית להוראת הכימיה בבתי ספר תיכון ונשיא החברה הישראלית לכימיה בין השנים 2006-2009. כיום פרופ׳ מרגל הוא גם דיקן הסטודנטים של אוניברסיטת בר אילן, ונציג האקדמיה הישראלית למדעים IUPAC.
